In 2020, Trudy embarked on a creative journey by founding Plumatic, transforming recycled bicycle inner tubes into stunning earrings. Nestled in the heart of Wellington, Trudy's passion for sustainability and craftsmanship has flourished.
Now in 2025, her daughter Isla is joining the Plumatic family, bringing fresh energy and creativity to the business while supporting her university education. Together, they continue to craft eco-friendly jewelry that embodies both style and environmental consciousness.
We source old inner tubes from local bike shops and upcycle them into jewellery for you to wear and enjoy. It's a beautiful use of something that usually ends up in the landfill.
The name 'Plumatic' is a combination of plumage and pneumatic - creating feathers (plumage) out of old inner tubes (pneumatic tyres). The earrings are named after bike models, parts or trails and birds.
Each item of jewellery is handmade by us including the sterling silver hooks.

Nestled in the heart of Wellington, surrounded by trees, birds, and my lovely chickens, I found my passion for upcycling bicycle inner tubes into earrings.
After spending most of my career in IT as a software tester, I took a break in 2020 and began crafting earrings from recycled bicycle inner tubes. This hobby blossomed into a gift store in Tawa called SoulyNZ, and I started selling my earrings at markets around Wellington.
Fast forward to 2025, I'm back in IT nearly full-time working for Storbie, and my daughter Isla has joined me in making these eco-friendly earrings.
